I really should go to sleep, but I feel compelled to share a great story that Matt had told us at lunch about something that happened to him a short time ago. I’m bound to get some details wrong… so Matt, if you read this feel free to correct it. He’d received a phone call [...]
Just back from an incredibly pleasant lunch with one brother from Orlando, FL (Matt) and a couple from Pasadena, CA (Dottie and Fred) where we reacted to an incredible message given during the first plenary session by Andy Crouch. It was such an enjoyable time where we each spoke and clarified what God was showing [...]
My wife and I are sitting here waiting for the Symposium to start and we’ve already met our neighbor (and fellow church planter). It’s an interesting experience going to a symposium/conference in your own home town. You’re off work, and have the whole day booked with sessions and workshops, but you know you’re going back [...]
I’m exhausted. Mainly because I’ve been sick for three weeks and am just now recovering and this has been a full day… but exhausted nonetheless. That said, I feel this great sense of burgeoning revelation as I contemplate and meditate on all that I’ve encountered today on this first day of the symposium. Andy Crouch [...]
I stayed long enough to ensure my vote for state delegate was counted, but due to my ever-present battle with bronchitis, I could stay no longer. Oddly enough, there are more people still coming in. It’s amazing to see really – this many people out on a Saturday not to see a sports event, but [...]
Behind me there’s a debate going on regarding abortion and choice. Both of the debaters claim Christ and they are sharply divided on the issue while in complete agreement about the morality of the issue. I interrupt this post with the fact that Sean Astin just walked up to the podium to declare his joy [...]
I’m sitting here in the Travis county expo center after sitting in a 30 min traffic jam and standing in an incredibly long line. Now we all wait for another hour for the actual start of the convention. As I stare out at the sea of Hillary and Obama signs I can’t help but wonder [...]
In today’s political landscape, the lines are blurring. Is abortion really the central issue upon which all decisions hang? What about homosexual marriage… is that the hill we’re supposed to die on? Speaking of dying… what about the war in Iraq… were we really in danger there and, more importantly, have we really made this [...]
Today, the 21st (the beginning of the Earth Day festivities in Austin), we went to the Austin Farmer’s Market at Republic Square downtown. We had been wanting to take the bus as a family into downtown and get some exercise plus get the chance to meet people and see the city from a different perspective. [...]
Hopefully, you see in these writings a man who is staying The Course and pursuing The Path amidst the pitfalls and selfish ways of being a son of Adam. I pray earnestly that my writing would encourage some of you by showing you that this journey - though arduous and sometimes tragic - is a journey of great satisfaction. A satisfaction greater than our greatest imaginings. The trials and refining fire of tribulation are to be recognized as a small shadow of the suffering of our Savior so that we can rejoice, as Peter and the disciples did, to be counted worthy to suffer for the sake of the Name.
