I have, for years, claimed with great sincerity how well the Word of God applies to life. I have claimed this with a weightiness that I give little else and, though absolutely true, I have come to realize that I rarely apply this truth with any specificity to the circumstances of my own life. The [...]
I haven’t blogged much over the past two weeks. Apparently, in order to resist the temptation of mindless surfing, I’ve stayed away from the computer while at home except to perform a very specific task (like budgets and purchases). My media fast ends at the end of the day on Saturday. I’ll be back blogging, [...]
I have had a relatively easy life. Nobody has tried to kill me (that I’m aware of). Nobody has really gone out of their way to really hurt me. I barely made it through high school because I believed it wasn’t worth the effort. I bounced from campus to campus and major to major after [...]
On Sunday I started a two-week media fast. This was a concept that God first introduced me to when I was a youth pastor. I had taken the youth to a retreat and in the retreat we were all challenged to examine our lives and see what changes might need to be made. God made [...]
For my 15 minutes of quiet time tonight, I was led to do something I’d never done before… a listening prayer. With my notebook in my lap, I asked God for guidance in a specific area of my life where I felt I needed great help and then I waited and listened and then wrote [...]
Richard gave us a disciplines project where we evaluate where we currently stand in spiritual disciplines and try to develop a strategy for improvement. The exercise is to write down where we think we currently stand and then see if we can prayerfully come up with a strategy to improve and write that down as [...]
In my little Progress sideblog to the right there, as I confessed this morning – yesterday came and went and I did not keep any of my resolutions for that day. The conundrum I face is how to reflect this in the sideblog… do I skip 004 and put today’s entry as 005? Do I [...]
Apparently – I didn’t break my RSS Widget… because I’ve done nothing and now the second entry appears… but it’s behaving strangely. If anyone has any insight they could share about why it does this – I would greatly appreciate it. The post itself and my RSS feed both show the 2nd entry with yesterday’s [...]
Well, I had to modify the RSS Widget so that it would do what I wanted… but, apparently, my modification has somehow broken it… you should see a “002: Prayed for 15 Minutes” in the “Progress” area there on the right. Alas, it is not appearing – most likely, I broke the widget due to [...]
So, in light of my new transparency and sincere desire to actually start doing these harder things that will cause actual growth… I’ve added a new feature to my sidebar. There, under the heading “Progress,” you will see a running entry of my successes (and failures) in keeping my resolutions listed in the previous post. [...]
Hopefully, you see in these writings a man who is staying The Course and pursuing The Path amidst the pitfalls and selfish ways of being a son of Adam. I pray earnestly that my writing would encourage some of you by showing you that this journey - though arduous and sometimes tragic - is a journey of great satisfaction. A satisfaction greater than our greatest imaginings. The trials and refining fire of tribulation are to be recognized as a small shadow of the suffering of our Savior so that we can rejoice, as Peter and the disciples did, to be counted worthy to suffer for the sake of the Name.
